The Greater Sterling Development Corporation (GSDC) was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization on April 3, 1990. It's principle objective is to coordinate various development activities to increase the economic base and thereby the well-being of citizens of the City of Sterling, Whiteside County, and surrounding areas, and creating employment and enrichment opportunities for all residents of said areas. The GSDC is guided by a 14 member Board of Directors. Board members select a professional director to carry out the mission of the GSDC. Organizational by-laws enumerate specific powers for the corporation, including the power to: Act as an agent or representative Deal in personal and real property Deal in securities Make contracts Borrow, lend, or solicit funds Expend and distribute funds Activities of the Greater Sterling Development Corporation include: Two Revolving Loan Funds Management of three industrial parks at various stages of development Operation of the Small Business and Technology Center, including the business "incubator" Grant administration Economic information clearinghouse
