The Greater Sterling Development Corporation (GSDC) was
incorporated as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization on April 3, 1990. It's principle objective is to coordinate
various development activities to increase the economic base and thereby the well-being of citizens of the City
of Sterling, Whiteside County, and surrounding areas, and creating employment and enrichment opportunities for all
residents of said areas.
The GSDC is guided by a 14 member Board of Directors. Board members select a professional director to carry out
the mission of the GSDC.
Organizational by-laws enumerate specific powers for the corporation, including the power to:
- Act as an agent or representative
- Deal in personal and real property
- Deal in securities
- Make contracts
- Borrow, lend, or solicit funds
- Expend and distribute funds
Activities of the Greater Sterling Development Corporation include:
- Two Revolving Loan Funds
- Management of three industrial parks at various stages
of development
- Operation of the Small Business and Technology Center, including the business
"incubator"
- Grant administration
- Economic information clearinghouse
